Graduate Transfer Credit Policy
Many schools recognize prior learning by allowing graduate-level transfer credits from accredited institutions, as long as the credits are relevant to the student’s current degree program and are documented through official transcripts.
Typically, up to 50% of a master’s or doctoral program may be fulfilled through transfer credits. Additionally, credit for experiential or equivalent learning is often limited to 25% (or 9 credits for a master’s degree).
To be eligible, courses must be no older than 10 years, match the content and level of the program, and cannot be reused from another completed degree. Schools retain full discretion to approve or deny transfer credits.
Students should note that transferability of credits varies by institution. It’s best to confirm with the receiving school’s admissions office before planning to transfer credits.
